Method
Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
- First, collect all your ingredients. A little prep goes a long way. You might want to have your jigger, muddler, and a shaker on hand.
Step 2: Muddle the Mint
- Grab your glass and add your fresh mint leaves. Use your muddler (or even the back of a spoon) to gently press the mint leaves. Just tap, don’t smash! You want to release the oils without shredding the leaves into bits.
Step 3: Mix the Lime Juice and Simple Syrup
- In a separate shaker, combine one ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice with half an ounce of homemade simple syrup. If you don’t have simple syrup prepared, mix equal parts sugar and hot water until dissolved, and let it cool.
Step 4: Add the Tequila
- Pour in one and a half ounces of silver tequila into the shaker. The tequila adds depth and character to your margarita.
Step 5: Shake It Up
- Add a handful of ice to the shaker and give it a good shake! You want everything mixed well and chilled. A solid 15 seconds should do it.
Step 6: Strain and Serve
- Take a glass filled with fresh ice and strain your mixture into it.
Step 7: Top with Ginger Beer
- Now it’s time to pour in three ounces of chilled ginger beer. Watch the bubbles dance!
Step 8: Garnish and Enjoy
- If you’re feeling fancy, garnish with the jalapeño slices or a sprig of mint. Sip slowly and enjoy every last drop.
Notes
- Use Fresh Ingredients: Always opt for fresh limes over bottled juice. It makes a noticeable difference!
- Chill Your Ingredients: Ensure your ginger beer is chilled, so your drink stays refreshing longer.
- Muddle Just Enough: Don’t over-muddle the mint; it should be fragrant, not bitter.
- Adjust Sweetness to Taste: If you prefer a sweeter drink, adjust the simple syrup until it’s perfect for you.
- Experiment with Flavors: Feel free to add different herbs like basil or even mix various fruits for unique flavor profiles.
