Cast Iron Frittata Recipe

Cast Iron Frittata Recipe - Affordable Food Ideas

There’s something incredibly satisfying about preparing and sharing a dish that feels just right for any occasion. I've gathered with friends for brunch, and I remember one sunny morning when I served a cast iron frittata that stole the show.
While everyone eagerly dug in, I couldn't help but smile. It paired beautifully with a light arugula salad tossed with lemon vinaigrette. This dish, warm and fluffy, was the perfect complement to the crisp greens.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk or your choice of milk
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • 6 large eggs increase to 8 for a 12-inch skillet
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt plus extra for garnishing
  • Extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • A splash of lemon juice for brightness
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes for subtle heat
  • Additional ingredients for your desired variation
Variation #1: Broccoli Feta
  • 2 cups of chopped broccoli or broccolini
  • 6 green onions finely sliced
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped, for added depth

Method

Step 1: Preheat the Oven
  1. Before any cooking magic can happen, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This step is crucial for setting the tone of your frittata cooking experience.
Step 2: Whisk the Eggs
  1. In a mixing bowl, crack the eggs and add almond milk, sea salt, and pepper. With a whisk in hand, beat the mixture until the eggs are well blended. Don’t rush this step; a good whisking introduces air, which makes your frittata light and fluffy.
Step 3: Sauté the Vegetables
  1. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat and drizzle with olive oil. Once hot, add the finely chopped garlic and allow it to sizzle for about 30 seconds. Remember, you're after fragrant garlic, not burnt bits. Then, add your chosen vegetables. If using broccoli, let it cook for about 3-4 minutes until tender.
Step 4: Combine the Ingredients
  1. Pour the egg mixture over your sautéed vegetables in the skillet. Stir gently to ensure even distribution. If you're using feta or any other cheese, sprinkle it on top now.
Step 5: Bake in the Oven
  1. Transfer the skillet to your preheated oven. Let it bake for about 15-20 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the center is set and the edges are lightly golden.
Step 6: Serve
  1. Once baked, remove the skillet from the oven and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Garnish with sea salt and some extra black pepper to taste. Then, slice it up and serve it warm!

Notes

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh eggs and seasonal veggies make a noticeable difference.
  • Don't rush the cooking: Low and slow is your friend.
  • Experiment with flavors: Herbs, spices, and different cheeses can totally transform your dish.
  • Watch the temperature: If your skillet is too hot, you risk uneven cooking.
  • Cut it into wedges: This makes for easy serving, whether it's for brunch or dinner.
