Cheesy Frittata Recipe - Affordable Food Ideas

I remember the first time I tasted a frittata. It was at a charming little café in Tuscany. The sun filtered through the windows, and I savored every bite of that cheesy goodness.
Since then, I’ve experimented with different recipes, and the cheesy frittata has become a favorite in my kitchen. It's an emblem of comfort and creativity.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced ripe tomatoes, seeds removed
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 slices of crispy bacon, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup freshly chopped basil leaves
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons of filtered water
  • 1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided

Method

Step 1: Preheat the Oven
  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your frittata will bake evenly.
Step 2: Prepare Ingredients
  1. While the oven preheats, prepare your ingredients. Dice the tomatoes, crumble the bacon, and chop the fresh basil. Set everything aside within reach – you won’t want to waste time looking for ingredients in the middle of cooking.
Step 3: Whisk the Eggs
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg whites, and water until well combined. This will create a fluffy base.
Step 4: Mix in Cheeses and Veggies
  1. Once your eggs are well mixed, add in the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, diced tomatoes, crumbled bacon, and chopped basil. Stir in the crushed red pepper flakes for that little kick. Mix until everything is evenly distributed.
Step 5: Transfer to Oven-Safe Dish
  1. Pour the frittata mixture into a greased oven-safe skillet or dish. Ensure it's evenly spread out to cook uniformly.
Step 6: Bake
  1. Place the skillet in the preheated oven. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the frittata is set in the center and lightly golden on top. A toothpick inserted in the middle should come out clean.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
  1. Once baked, remove the frittata from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing. It can be served warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh herbs and ripe vegetables elevate the flavor significantly.
  • Don’t Overmix: Mix just until combined; overmixing can result in a rubbery texture.
  • Experiment with Cheeses: Substitute mozzarella with feta, goat cheese, or even cheddar for varied flavors.
  • Watch the Baking Time: Ovens can vary slightly. Keep an eye on the frittata to avoid overcooking.
  • Serving: Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. This way, it will hold its shape better.
