Method
Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
- Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This way, the frittata will have a lovely golden finish when it’s time to bake.
Step 2: Sauté the Vegetables
- In a large oven-safe skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the sliced onion and bell peppers. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the onions are translucent and the peppers are tender.
Step 3: Cook the Sausage
- Add the sausage to the pan, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until the sausage is browned and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes. Season with half the sea salt, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes.
Step 4: Prepare the Egg Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, remaining sea salt, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes. Fold in the fresh oregano for that extra burst of flavor.
Step 5: Combine and Cook
- Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and vegetables in the skillet. Stir gently to combine everything. Allow it to cook on the stovetop for about 2-3 minutes, just until the edges start to set.
Step 6: Bake the Frittata
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and the top is slightly golden.
Step 7: Serve and Enjoy
- Once done, remove the skillet from the oven using protective gloves. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm, and enjoy your delicious sausage frittata!
Notes
- Use Fresh Herbs: Fresh herbs enhance the taste. Basil or parsley makes great additions or substitutions for oregano.
- Avoid Overcooking: Keep an eye on the frittata while it bakes. Overcooked eggs can become rubbery.
- Experiment with Cheese: Cheeses like feta or goat cheese add a delightful tang. Sprinkle on top before baking for extra creaminess.
- Make it Ahead: A frittata can be made ahead of time. Just reheat slices in the oven or microwave.
- Clean-up is a Breeze: Use a non-stick skillet to ensure easy serving and clean-up afterwards.
