A lazy Sunday afternoon, the sun pours into your kitchen. You open the pantry and spot a can of tuna, a carton of eggs, and a loaf of bread just begging to be turned into something delicious.
This little moment sparked the inspiration for my favorite sandwich—the tuna egg sandwich. Not only is it a quick fix, but it’s also packed with nutrition and flavor that makes every bite worth savoring.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard for a tangy kick
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill for added freshness
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and diced
  • 1 can tuna in water, drained 5-ounce
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Hard-Boiled Eggs
  1. Start by boiling your eggs. Place them in a pot covered with water, bringing it to a rolling boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and cover for 12 minutes. After that, cool them under cold running water and peel.
Step 2: Mix the Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, chopped celery, diced hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and fresh dill. Mix until well incorporated. Don’t be afraid to get your hands in there. It’s oddly satisfying!
Step 3: Season
  1. Once everything is mixed, add salt and pepper to taste. A pinch of each can go a long way. Taste it to ensure it’s just right.
Step 4: Assemble the Sandwich
  1. Spread the tuna and egg mixture onto two slices of whole wheat bread. Top with the remaining slices to create your sandwich. Press down gently to secure everything.
Step 5: Slice and Serve
  1. Cut your sandwich in half or quarters. Serve it up with your favorite side, and enjoy!

Notes

Use Fresh Ingredients
Fresh dill or scallions can greatly enhance the flavor profile. Never underestimate the power of fresh herbs!
Chill the Mix
If you have time, chill your tuna mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
Experiment with Bread
Try different types of bread—sourdough or rye can add interesting flavors and textures.
Add Extra Veggies
Want to sneak in some more nutrition? Throw in grated carrots or chopped bell peppers.
Dress It Up
Consider adding sliced tomatoes or avocado for a gourmet touch.
